ARISE ran a successful ACTS transport coordination meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 19 April 2016. The participants were drawn from the transport authorities of the ACTS Pilot countries, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. Members of ASEAN Customs Authorities also attended the event. During the day participants discussed the strategy for the upcoming ACTS Pilot phases due to start in July 2016 and end in December 2016; the meeting also agreed on the operating guidelines for the ASEAN goods vehicle cross-border permit, including procedures for issuance and enforcement at borders. The meeting then discussed the transport border control procedures for trucks travelling under the ASEAN Customs Transit System (ACTS). With the co-operation of all the stakeholders and agencies involved, notably Customs, Transport and the private sector, ACTS stands on the brink of offering a major breakthrough to the facilitation of inter-ASEAN movement of goods by road.
